A winning look at Nottingham's underground offering!

Did you see our posters on the London Underground? Kate Holderness did, and she sent us a fabulous picture of herself posing next to the Brian Clough Statue for a competition.

In return for this great snap, we sent her to experience Nottingham's very own underground. Kate swapped the tube network of London to an underground network of over 400 sandstone caves deep beneath Nottingham City. Here is a quick review of her time in Notts. "It's been over a week since I got back from Nottingham and I'm already planning my next visit! I was treated to a couple of days in Robin Hood's Land courtesy of Experience Nottinghamshire after I won a competition with them earlier this year. Our trip began on a Monday afternoon as we checked into our beautiful superior room at The Lace Market Hotel. I say 'room'....it was more like a mini-apartment! As we quickly changed and hurried off to dinner, I made a mental note of the huge free standing bath tub and fluffy bathrobes for later! Another treat from Experience Nottinghamshire was a two-course meal at the Cross Keys with a bottle of vino thrown in for good measure. I was pleasantly surprised, and suitably laughed-at, when I pulled out my iPhone for directions and it was literally about 30 seconds from the hotel! We spent a lovely evening chowing down on Surf & Turf steak platters, lamb shank and an amazing rhubarb crumble to finish off. We managed to roll ourselves back to the hotel and have a quick bath before bed. Tuesday morning and it was off to the City of Caves, Nottingham's subterranean attraction which takes you on a self-guided tour of the underground complex of sandstone caves dating back to the Dark Ages. I was slightly over-excited to wear the optional yellow hard hat provided and we spent around an hour exploring the hidden city! When we got back to the surface we needed a bit of daylight so we sat in Old Market Square for five minutes....which turned into TWO HOURS!! It was one if the hottest days of the year so far so we made the most of it by sunbathing around the fountains and enjoying the lovely view. When we got peckish we headed up towards Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, reportedly the oldest pub in England. This is definitely a must-see if you're planning a trip to Nottingham, it feels likes a set from Harry Potter with all it's nooks and crannies and curios on display. We had delicious sandwiches in the 'Rock Lounge' and then finished our drinks outside for some more sun worshipping. Eventually it was time to get back in the car and set back to London....but not without a quick wander around the shops first! It was my first time in Nottingham but it's definitely the first of many....humongous bath tubs, gourmet food, hidden cities, living history...what's Nott to love?!"
