One of the best things about Nottinghamshire is the diverse array of art galleries across the county, perfect for indulging your creative side, and finding new cultural inspiration.
Of these, some are obvious. Nottingham Contemporary is known as one of the best contemporary art spaces in the UK, and the New Art Exchange is the largest space in the country dedicated to culturally diverse art.
But beyond the obvious, we are lucky to be home to a number of fantastic independent art galleries, located in unexpected places across the county. One of the gems of the Nottinghamshire art world has to be Mish Mash Gallery, in Chilwell on the outskirts of Nottingham. Easily reached by bus or train from the city centre, the gallery prides itself on exhibiting and selling inspiring works produced by some of the best artists in Nottinghamshire.
Showcasing original British contemporary art, ceramics, glass and jewellery, alongside retro and vintage furniture pieces, the gallery is ideal for browsing, and its collection is constantly being refreshed and updated.
Run by friendly team Gail and Gary, the gallery has been open since April 2012, and already has a committed following of regular visitors and customers.
Popular Nottinghamshire artists exhibited by the gallery include Ann Pollard, Ingrid Bee, Simon Brown and Oliver Lovley, all of whom have diverse artistic styles, adding to the eclectic feel of the gallery.
If you’re looking for a gift, the beautiful jewellery is sure to hit the spot, with locally designed pieces including silver pieces reclaimed from antique silverware and designed by Gilly Sanderson.
The vintage furniture scattered throughout the gallery is beautiful in its own right, with each piece offering a unique style from the past. While here, relax a while with a freshly-ground coffee, tea, or a cold drink, and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of this special art space.
