Let's get Nottinghamshire inducted into VisitEngland's Hall of Fame

The country’s national tourist board, VisitEngland has this week launched a search to establish England’s ultimate Hall of Fame. The list of famous claims hailing from England is endless, some that we all know about and are already proud of, some that continue to surprise us. We are proud that Nottinghamshire has some of the greatest claims and we want them all to dominate England’s Hall of Fame. Do you know any of them? They might be old or new claims, the ones we all take for granted, or the ones that maybe only you know about.

The Hall of Fame has six categories:

• The Great, The Good and the Notorious
• Inventions & Discoveries
• Food & Drink
• History & Heritage
• Culture & Entertainment
• Sport & Leisure.

We've spotted the 40 year anniversary of Nottingham’s Sir Paul Smith store along with Screen 22, the smallest cinema in the world, both in the Culture & Entertainment category.  Southwell’s Bramley Apple has been recognised in the Inventions & Discoveries category and probably our most famous claim sat proudly in The Great, The Good and the Notorious category, the legend that is Robin Hood. We've thought of a few Nottinghamshire claims to get you started:

• England’s oldest pub (Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem)
• The oldest Ice Age art and relics (Creswell Crags)
• The home of the oldest football league club (Notts County Football Club)
• The start and end of the Civil War
• Nottingham Lace, which is currently enjoying a renaissance
• The Raleigh Chopper
• Ibuprofen (invented right here in our county)
• Torville & Dean
• The most haunted building in the UK (Galleries of Justice)
• The last complete workhouse in existence (Southwell Workhouse)

You can choose one of these or put forward your own Nottinghamshire claim, and submit as many as you like. There is no limit and it’s really easy. Of course there may well be many more that we haven't thought of, stories you have that we haven't heard. If that's the case, get them in the Hall of Fame by giving them your vote! When you vote, you will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win a weekend break away. The deadline for entries is 23 March 2014.

A shortlist will then be open to public vote to establish the final Hall of Fame, which will be announced on 23 April, St George’s Day.

To vote, simply visit the Hall of Fame website and click SUBMIT. You will then be directed to a short form where you sign in using one of your social media platforms by clicking the relevant icon. The form will then automatically fill your details in for you. Then enter your claim, the place/county in which it originates from, the website, and then a short story on why it should be in the Hall of Fame. Choose the category you think it should come under and then there is an option to upload an image or video to accompany the claim. Once you're happy, click SUBMIT and you're done!

There is no limit to how many people, places or items you vote for so if you feel passionately about more than one, give them all your vote!
