Cyclists, members of Nottingham City Council, Robin Hood and even the odd cow or two descended on Nottingham today for the official launch of the Milk Race which is making a return to the city this summer. Powered by pints of milk, the bike lovers took part in a fun-filled spin class led by former Milk Race winner, Olympian and Tour de France cyclist Malcolm Elliot. They were joined by World and European champion Katie Archibald and Ed Clancy, who are both confirmed to ride this year’s Milk Race as part of the Madison Boot Out Breast Cancer team and the Rapha Condor JLT team. The Milk Race, which was held for the first time in 2013 after a two decade absence, is coming to Nottingham on 25th May and offers both elite cyclists, keen amateurs and novices the chance to pedal around a 1.2km circuit in the city centre, starting and finishing at our iconic Council House. There will also be a Milk Race Village where visitors will be able to marvel at Team GB's elite cyclists, watch bike stunt displays, find out about the health benefits of milk - and get a 'milk moustache' from one of the face painters. Last year the Milk Race attracted thousands of cyclists and more than 60,000 spectators and this year's event is expected to build on that success. Councillor David Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure at the city council, said: “We’re so pleased with the amazing reaction the Milk Race has received on the announcement of its return to Nottingham. Everyone in the city is already getting very excited for 25th May – we’re looking forward to an even bigger, better Milk Race than last years.” Meanwhile, chief executive of the Nottingham Building Society David Marlow added: "It is great news that the Milk Race is back in our home city of Nottingham. We are very proud to sponsor this event as it means so much to thousands of local people." Registration for family and advanced rides opens today. To register visit the Milk Race website.
