MEDIA RELEASE: 9 May 2014

Experience Nottinghamshire, the destination management organisation responsible for driving leisure and business visitors to the city and county, is looking forward to welcoming many of the 50,000 visitors to the Nottinghamshire County Show this weekend (10 – 11 May 2014) to its stand at the Newark Showground.

As well as providing information about many of Nottinghamshire’s tourism hotspots, the Experience Nottinghamshire stand will be the place to go for visitors to have their photographs taken as Robin Hood or Wallace & Gromit in a life size carnival cut out, and be encouraged to take part in a competition to win one of four exclusive Nottinghamshire prizes – including three short breaks, tickets to the Robin Hood beer festival and his and hers Raleigh bikes.

Sarah Thursfield, Marketing Manager, Experience Nottinghamshire, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming a large number of visitors to our stand and inspiring them with suggestions of over 450 attractions, events and places to go in the city and county.  From cycling trails to The Great War centenary commemorations and from real ale trails to the Nottingham European Arts and Theatre Festival (neat14), we will be showcasing why Nottinghamshire is the perfect place to visit.”

Set in the market town of Newark, the Nottinghamshire County Show is a fantastic traditional show promoting farming, food, rural life and heritage in Nottinghamshire and beyond.

From dog displays to show jumping and traditional equine and livestock showing classes, there will be plenty to explore.

If you have a bit of spare time, why not combine the Show with a trip to the picturesque town of Newark and discover its rich heritage. A stroll within the ruins of Newark Castle will take you back to the English Civil War when the Castle was badly damaged due to its key position on the banks of the River Trent. A Civil War Trail is also available from the nearby tourist information centre.
