With Valentine’s Day less than a fortnight away, treat your own Maid Marian or Robin Hood to an unforgettable experience in Nottinghamshire. If you're anything like me, you may not want the usual candle-lit dinner and movie - so we're lucky that Nottinghamshire has something for everyone. Wine and dine your lover . . . For those who are truly romantic, where better than to wine and dine your love than at Newstead Abbey, once home to romantic poet Lord Byron? Or how about an evening tour of Batman's pad (Wollaton Hall) with a glass of wine in hand as you admire a rooftop view of Nottingham’s skyline?  Of course, if you fancy something a little different find time to visit The Pudding Pantry. The city centre cafe will be offering guests afternoon tea with a twist, especially for Valentine's. You can also visit the market town of Newark. After exploring the town's independent shops, book a lunch or dinner date at Farndon Boathouse on the banks of the River Trent. Explore picturesque landscapes . . . Did you know that National Trust property Clumber Park has recently been named the most romantic place for a date in the East Midlands by the Great Date Guide? While you are here, walk or cycle along the longest avenue of Lime Trees in Europe. Nearby Creswell Crags is a world famous archaeological site, and home to the world’s oldest ice age art. Whether you are looking for a quick stroll or a day-long hike, there are many trails which take you through this enchanting area. Alternatively, make sure you find time to visit Snowsdrops at Hodsock - it might even inspire you to pop the all-important question! And of course, you can enjoy a gentle stroll through Sherwood Forest where Robin wooed his love 'beneath the greenwood tree' before they supposedly tied the knot at St Mary’s Church in the nearby village of Edwinstowe. Unusual Valentine’s dates . . . Would you like to fly to Paris, Venice or even Hawaii without leaving Nottingham? Imagine you're a pilot with a flying experience at SimSpot in the Cornerhouse. If you're a thrill seeker, become Tarzan and Jane in Sherwood Forest at Go Ape at Sherwood Pines. Swing through the trees, fly down zip slides and leap off Tarzan swings while enjoying views of the forest below. Rest your head . . . If you need somewhere to snuggle up after a long day of romantic adventures, Nottinghamshire has some great places to stay at any time of year, from rural escapes like Browns of Holbeck, to cabins in Sherwood Forest at Forest Holidays and Sherwood Hideaway and city centre love nests St James Hotel and Hart’s Hotel.
