THEATRE ROYAL SHORT FILM PREMIERES FOR 150th ANNIVERSARY YEAR

On Friday 25 September 2015, the Theatre Royal Nottingham will celebrate its 150^th anniversary. Today, to mark the start of the theatre’s anniversary celebrations, a short film featuring never before seen footage and access behind the scenes has had its premiere. In November 2014, the Theatre Royal commissioned a local Nottingham company, Inside Out Time Lapse Productions, to produce a three minute film to commemorate the theatre’s 150^th year.  The company were given exclusive access behind the scenes and shot many hours of footage from November 2014 to February 2015.  Time lapse cameras were installed backstage to give an insight into the massive operation involved in unloading, building and lighting each production.  Visiting companies gave exclusive access to their artists in rehearsal, in make-up and waiting in the wings, sometimes right up to the curtain rising.  Audiences were also filmed as they moved around the foyers and watched from their seats during performances. Stee Simons, lead director at Inside Out, said, “It was agreed early on that the focus should be on the people; on stage, behind the scenes but importantly the audience.  The task was to do justice to a magnificent and prestigious theatre that has stood as a landmark of Nottingham for a century-and-a-half in just around three minutes on screen. The brief was to mark the contemporary theatre with a video that simultaneously stands the test of time itself. “The proximity of Inside Out Time Lapse Productions in Basford to the Theatre Royal, in addition to the close working relationship that has developed between both parties, has produced a video which we hope will move theatre goers, performers and staff.” Lindsay Hall, Marketing Officer for the Theatre Royal, who coordinated the film project from the initial concept to the first public screening today, said “We are all incredibly proud of this film.  It’s unique.  I think Inside Out have done a wonderful job in capturing the essence of what makes this theatre such a special place to be; the delight on the faces of the audience, the hard work and commitment of the performers, the efforts our backstage and front of house teams put in to each and every performance are there for all to see.
