Get set for festival fever in Nottingham this October

Nottingham will be bursting with activity as the UK's festival city this October. It's a packed 31 days with plenty happening to cater to all tastes and interests; from avid gamers to film buffs, from canal celebrations to beer festivals – Nottingham quite literally has it all this October. Here's a quick tour of what you can expect on your October visit to Nottingham! A seasoned performer in the calendar and an event that continues to build up a head of steam every year, The Robin Hood Beer & Cider Festival returns to Nottingham Castle once more, delivering over 1,000 beers as well as real ciders, fresh food and entertainment throughout four days – raising a glass to local produce. Joining the party this year for the first time is the brand new Oktoberfest - based on the German concept and already proving hugely popular in London. Nottingham will host its own German beer festival with live entertainment and delicious food on the Forest Recreation Ground. A mainstay of October and one that needs no introduction is Goose Fair – one of Europe's oldest travelling fairs. Whether you're seeking the thrills and spills of the rides or simply love to get your hands around a warm pot of the fairs famous mushy peas, it's a real winter warmer on a cool October evening. If you love things that go bump in the night, then dare yourself to visit the Galleries of Justice Museum and spend Halloween at one of the UK's most haunted buildings with ghost tours, scare shows, exhibitions and much more to send a chill through your spine! For lovers of film, the 2015 Mayhem Film Festival at Broadway guarantees to thrill all those who love their horror genre feature films. Introducing new and exciting big-screen features as well as celebrating established, timeless classics, Mayhem always serves up a fright or two for its visitors. Meanwhile, a craze in the film industry in China at the moment, microfilms, will be celebrated as Nottingham is set to host its first Microfilm Festival this October. However if you prefer to get your game face on while watching the big screen, then GameCity 10 promises to deliver yet more exciting gaming news and action to Nottingham. Expect spectacular demonstrations, futuristic previews and plenty happening at Nottingham's National Video Game Arcade. If you enjoy live music then the city will be your haven with two music festivals delivering contrasting styles and genres. Rockingham Music Festival takes over Rock City from the 23rd - 25th October while Hockley Hustle promises to fill Nottingham's alternative district with live performances at many of its quirky venues. Treat the family to packed days out with plenty to keep the little ones entertained at the Robin Hood Pageant at the Nottingham Castle with appearances from Robin Hood himself as well as jousting and plenty of activities and entertainment over three days. Continue the celebration of our outlaw with International Robin Hood Day and Robin Hood Week, celebrating the man in tights throughout the city. Alternatively, the nationally recognised Family Arts Festival will be bringing events to the city from 9th October - 1st November. Many venues in the city will be taking part including Nottingham Lakeside Arts, keeping minds active and hands busy with a range of crafts and interactive events throughout the month. Nottingham's heritage is something that certainly shouldn't be overlooked, especially when it comes to its network of canals and waterways. New for 2015, the Nottingham Canal Festival aims to celebrate the role the canals played in the cities past, especially within its industrial roots. Keep your eyes open for lots of activity and colour on Nottingham's canals on the 10th October. And, as a new attraction to the city for 2015, The Spiegel Tent will land in Nottingham's Old Market Square from 29th September - 4th October. Inside this grand and elaborately designed Belgian 20th century dance hall you will find live events such as music, comedy and burlesque shows during the six days.
