In Nottingham, we’re lucky enough to live in one of the most active, diverse and historic sporting cities in the UK. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been on a mission to share all that’s great about sport in Nottingham with the world - as we compete for the crown of ‘England’s Home of Sport’. VisitEngland are looking for the nation’s premier sport's-mad destination - all you have to do is Tweet or Instagram a sporting snap with the hash tags #Nottingham and #HomeofSport. Your photos may even be included on the VisitEngland Home of Sport website. The competition’s really heated up over the last few weeks, as the Nottinghamshire public have gotten behind our campaign and uploaded dozens of fantastic photos. Some of our favourites so far are below:   Considering how much high-octane sporting action we’ve enjoyed here in Nottingham recently, it’s no surprise that we’ve had so many great entries. The city's been full of everything from slamming aces, to crunching cricket shots, and glittering gold medals. We saw the Aegon Open Tennis Tournament quickly followed up by the World Wheelchair Tennis Championships at Nottingham Tennis Centre - a highlight of which was seeing Britain's Jordanne Whiley MBE take the title, beating the World No.1 in the process. She even found time to get behind our campaign! We also welcomed the first ever World Deaf Tennis Championships, while competitors from across the globe jetted in for the Cerebral Palsy World Games. Then, unforgettably, a rampant England team – led by our own Stuart Broad – ensured that The Ashes would be won at Trent Bridge for the first time in the rivalry’s history – about time too, for the world’s third oldest test match venue. Don’t think that there will be any let-up in the breath-taking sporting action over the coming weeks, either. We have the Powerboat World Championships jetting into the National Water Sports Centre, the nation’s best archers taking aim at Wollaton Hall, and the Tour of Britain riders sprinting along our streets toward the Stage Six finale. Local boys, Team Raleigh, are sure to receive rapturous support as they slug it out against cycling juggernauts like Team Sky, Omega-Quickstep and BMC. We even have a new show currently airing on CBBC, following the exploits of talented young Ice Stars at the National Ice Centre - highlighting their dedication, as they aim to emulate the achievements of greats like our own Torvill and Dean. Speaking of Torvil and Dean, we’ve no shortage of rich sporting heritage in Nottingham either - whether it's Forest’s European Cup wins, or Notts County’s status as the world's oldest football league club. So for us, Nottingham has to be England’s #HomeofSport. If you agree, get your nominations in before the closing date on the 31st of August.
