The spooktacular Nottingham Ghost Walk

On the second Saturday of March, our team were invited to take part in the famous Nottingham Ghost Walk - so we promptly assembled some brave souls and ventured out into the unknown. We turned up early at the starting point to find a group of people already waiting. The Ghost Walk is a really popular event, booking is not essential, so you can just turn up on the day and pay then. The only time it's important to book, for obvious reasons, is on Halloween, when all of the damned souls descend to join the walk too. During our recent walk we visited, among others, St Nicholas' Churchyard, to listen to the story of the restless soul who wanders the area at night and often enters the Trent FM basement. We also stopped off at Castle Gate to hear the tragic infant story, and paused at Nottingham Castle to enjoy the story of the wailing Welsh princes. Here's our comments on how we liked the walk, and which parts were our favourites. Nell - The enthusiasm of the storyteller makes the whole experience fun and completely gripping. He obviously loves what he does, and that enjoyment rubs off on everyone else. Melody - The atmosphere's done it for me, it was really creepy. We listened to several ghost stories and when I recall them now the scary feeling comes back right away. Jayne – Fantastic idea to start in the St Nicholas graveyard – very atmospheric and loved the story about the ghost walking through the wall into the Trent FM basement! It’s a combination of ghosts and Nottingham history, so should appeal to everyone! Sarah – I love the real life stories, for example the facts about Marshall Tallard who was imprisoned on Castle Road. Nottingham is steeped in such interesting history, I love our city! #LoveNotts Kinga – I was really excited when we got invited to the Nottingham Ghost Walk, as I’m a big fan of the paranormal. When we arrived at the meeting place we were surprised to see that the crowd had already started gathering, and there were around 25/30 people already waiting outside the Salutation Inn. We were surprised by the numbers and at the same time we got worried that we wouldn't be able to hear the stories. Fortunately, our ghostly guide was perfect, and gathered everyone close around him so all could hear clearly. The number of people attending only proved how popular the Nottingham Ghost Walk really is. My favourite story was of the little baby who was bricked in the wall of a room, later making occupants of the room feel uncomfortable and at times, sick. All in all, the walk was great - we loved the stories and the atmosphere. I would 100% recommend it to everyone. The walk started at 7pm and finished at 8:30pm, so a good hour and a half of stories told by our brilliant guide. We really recommend this ghostly experience for all lovers of the paranormal, and have to advise those who are a little faint of heart to stay at home on this occasion.
