National Trust’s Clumber Park, Worksop, will be holding an apple weekend on 8 and 9 October between 12noon and 4pm in honour of National Apple Day. Visitors will be able to sample some of the regional and heritage varieties from the National Collection, growing in Clumber Park’s Walled Kitchen Garden. This collection includes rare local varieties originating from across the East Midlands and Yorkshire, cared for by the Clumber Park gardening team. In addition to apple tasting there will be apple juicing, apple-themed games, apples for sale and apple-themed walks around the garden, highlighting the work the garden team is doing to conserve heritage apples. Christopher Margrave, Head Gardener at Clumber Park said:  “Clumber’s apple event is one of many taking place at this time of year to coincide with National Apple Day on 21 October.  The aim is to celebrate apples and orchards, link apple varieties with their places of origin and promote local diversity.  Our search for lost varieties is ongoing and it is great news that we have been able to add two more wonderful old varieties to our collection this year, the ‘Bolingbroke Beauty’ and ‘Kane’s Seedling’.” There is no additional charge for the event.  Normal admission charges to Park and Walled Kitchen Garden apply.
