First ever History Festival at The University of Nottingham

Do you want to walk in the footsteps of the Nottingham rioters? Delve into the history of Nottingham’s green spaces or find out more about your family history? Now you can, as part of a new three-day festival which is taking place from 5 – 7 April. During the festival, there will be a wide range of events taking place, from talks and workshops to guided walks and living history - all completely free of charge. Visitors will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the University’s Manuscripts and Special Collection department; hear talks from Dr Nick Barratt of BBC’s ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ fame; and find out more about the heritage of University Park Campus and Wollaton Hall with expert guides from the University. There will also be opportunities for history enthusiasts to step back into the past with living history and re-enactment displays; encounter ancient hairstyles and the lives of medieval women; and to find out more about the First World War. The events will take place across multiple locations including University Park Campus and in the City centre. The festival organiser Dr Sarah Holland from the University’s School of History said: “The festival aims to bring together students, staff and the wider community through a shared interest in the past. It offers unique opportunities to go behind the scenes, engage with hands on activities and hear original interpretations.
