Notts Superstar Georgie Talks Splendour Festival

Mansfield singer-songwriter Georgie will be joining headliners Kaiser Chiefs on the Main Stage at this year’s Splendour Festival. Two years on from her last Splendour appearance, and after supporting Jake Bugg on a triumphant UK tour, Georgie is signed to Columbia Records and working on her debut album. With an exciting year ahead, we caught up with the local star ahead of her Splendour Festival return. You’re about to step on stage, but first what's your typical regime? I'm always pretty chilled before I go on stage so I don't really have any little regimes or superstitions, I sometimes listen to some tunes that really inspire me. The bass player and I started doing a little dance that we made up on the Jake Bugg tour too, and that’s kind of stuck. What sound can the Splendour crowd expect from you? Will you hit us with anything new? Lots of new stuff! There are a fair few new tunes, so they can definitely expect to hear some of those I would imagine. I’m hoping it’ll be sunny too, so good vibes! And maybe I can help with sending those summer vibes out too. Growing up in Notts, did you ever go to Splendour as a festival goer? If so what was a highlight? I've never been as a punter actually! I always wanted to. I remember one year Blondie was playing and I didn't get to go because I was working at a Chinese takeaway at the time, and Saturdays in catering are of course very busy! The first time I went to Splendour I played the Acoustic Rooms Stage, then a few years after that the Confetti Stage and now I'm performing on the Main Stage. I think that's nice, playing every stage at the festival. Personally, I think Jake Bugg headlining was pretty special and that was my first Splendour experience too, so that was great! Where in Notts has been your favourite venue to perform? There really are so many! I love those special  little venues like Jam Cafe and The Maze, but also Rescue Rooms, Bodega and Rock City are special too. I feel very lucky to have that as a Notts musician. For anyone visiting Splendour from afar, what are your top three things to do in the county?

1. Go and have a pint at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem and play that swingy game they have there! That's one of my favourite places, especially when it's sunny.
2. Mix it up with a walk in Sherwood Pines or even Newstead Abbey - I love that. They do a good sausage roll at Sherwood Pines too if you want to get the full Notts experience.
3. Lastly, watch Mansfield Town play a home game, of course!
