The Christmas period is once again being celebrated in style in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire! After a sensational debut, Christmas at Wollaton is back in 2021, once again promising a visually stunning multi-sensory light trail around the picturesque garden and grounds. Until the 9th of January 2022, you can enter the enchanting world of music and light, a magical evening that we were fortunate enough to experience!

As twilight descended, the Visit Nottinghamshire team stepped out into the Autumn chill for the opening of Christmas at Wollaton to enjoy the spectacular light displays. Walking up the winding path, we were greeted with the Elizabethan mansion lit up a deep wintery blue. Before entering the enchanting world, our bags were checked, and tickets were scanned. Moments later, we were wandering through the first part of the multi-sensory light trail – the Festive Forest. This section of the trail, adorned by illuminated woodland creatures, took us on a scenic journey to the Deer Park and Laser Gardens.

After walking through the Tunnel of Light, we were immersed in a golden constellation from all directions. Twinkling stars hung from the trees lit up the way as we ventured through giant glistening stars on our journey to the next display.

After exploring the other enchanting displays Wollaton had to offer we reached the Festive Finale. An endearing festive light story lit up the back of Wollaton Hall. As the story reached its climax, the Christmas tree standing before the Hall was illuminated – a majestic ending to a magical multi-sensory evening.

Throughout the trail, there were many opportunities to treat ourselves to hot and cold refreshments such as festive hot chocolate, mulled wine as well as toasted marshmallows.

“The multi-sensory trail was a magical experience. It felt like an escape from the outside world, as if you entered an enchanting world of light walking around all the different light displays. Everywhere I looked there was something different captivating me, leaving me feeling festive by the end of the trail” – Laura Lee - Marketing Intern

“A truly spectacular evening, which for a few hours we were transported away to a world of dancing glistening lights, and euphoric sounds. Some of the displays were none like we had ever seen before – it was evident so much creativity and thought had gone into each section. My personal favourite was the Star of Wonder- a section through which we journeyed through a glittering constellation of golden stars. Throughout the trail I caught myself wondering around jaw dropped, in complete awe of my surroundings. It’s a beautiful experience to share with your loved ones. It left us feeling inspired, joyful and, of course, festive!” – Katrina Farrier – Marketing Intern

Christmas at Wollaton offers allocated time slots for anyone who would benefit from experiencing the trail in quieter settings due to learning conditions/difficulties. Every effort has been made to make the trail accessible but bear in mind parts of the trail are on uneven terrain and could be affected by wet weather. Accessible toilets are available.
