A Splash-Tastic Christmas at Lakeside Arts

Lakeside Arts is all dressed up for a magical mermaid adventure this Christmas! Wander through the café to smells of mince pies, spot the glistening mermaid tail and roll up to the circus. With two gorgeous family-friendly exhibitions and a fabulous Christmas show, The Singing Mermaid, Lakeside is a place of Christmas wonder (under the sea!).

The highlight this Christmas is The Singing Mermaid, a stunning puppetry musical show for ages 3+, running between 9-31 December. Watch as the mermaid is tricked into joining the circus, only to find herself stuck in a tiny tank! Will she ever escape? And who will help her along the way?

Little Angel Theatre and Royal and Derngate, Northampton, production of The Singing Mermaid, is presented by Watershed productions- based on the picture book by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, with music by Barb Jungr (We’re Going on a Bear Hunt).

Accompanying this sea-riffic show, Lakeside offers a free jellyfish exhibition made from recycled materials to create a colourful light-up seascape. Found next to the café in the DH Lawrence Pavilion, this glistening exhibition was created by eight local schools - go in and take a swim with mermaids, jellyfish and more!

All that swimming can make you hungry, and what better meal to eat this festive period than a delicious Christmas dinner! With gluten-free and vegan options, and 3 delicious courses, Lakeside’s pavilion café is offering Christmas dinner from 12noon- 1.30pm Monday-Friday until Friday 23 December.

To walk off that lovely meal, you can then stroll over to the Djanogly Gallery where two gorgeous exhibitions await. Nottingham Portraits by Barbara Laws features photography of people from the Nottingham Meadows in the 70s. From little kids dressed up for church, to wrestlers from the Goose Fair, this is a wonderful look into life in Nottingham. Next door, you will find the Sophie Ryder exhibition full of sculptures, drawings and prints of dogs, minotaurs, and half-woman-half-hares. Can you spot the toy dinosaur pressed into one of the sculptures? How about the little frog?  Open until 12 March, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 12noon-4pm.
