As the Belvoir Castle Flower & Garden Show returns, we caught up with renowned TV gardener and personality David Domoney...

Get ready to be inspired as the Belvoir Castle Flower & Garden Show 2025 returns next weekend, bringing two days of blooming brilliance to the stunning grounds of one of the East Midlands’ most iconic estates. With expert talks, floral displays, and artisan stalls, it’s a must-visit for garden lovers, families, and anyone with a love for the great outdoors. Ahead of this year’s show, we caught up with renowned TV gardener and personality David Domoney, who’ll be appearing at the event, to talk all things gardening, what makes this show so special, and why he has a soft spot for the Vale of Belvoir.

1. Belvoir Castle is undoubtedly a showstopper. What was your first impression when you saw the castle and gardens designed by the renowned 18th century landscape designer Capability Brown?

"I found the castle beautifully designed, full of splendour. The views from the castle across the surrounding landscape were just breathtaking."

2. Can you take us back… do you remember the moment you truly fell in love with gardening, what sparked it?

"The first moment was a science project when I was at school, involving a bean and a jam jar. Watching the bean germinate filled me with wonder and curiosity."

3. When you’re not on camera or designing gardens, where do you escape to recharge? Are you someone who potters in your own garden or prefers something completely different?

"I’m a master scuba diver who enjoys the engagement of the world underwater. It is such a peaceful pastime, full of discovery."

4. Have you spent much time in the Vale of Belvoir before? We love its traditional English charm…What do you love about this part of the world?

"The Vale of Belvoir is spectacular. The sweeping landscapes and historic charm of its towns and villages make it a truly lovely area."

5. If your gardening style were a music genre, what would it be…rock ‘n’ roll, classical, jazz?

"Tranquil, perhaps like soul music. Calm, steady, and expressive."

6. What excites you most about attending the Belvoir Castle Flower & Garden Show. Is it the gardens, the people, the atmosphere?

"It’s meeting the people, gardeners, and gardening enthusiasts, and talking passionately about plants and gardening with them."

7. How would you say the show has developed since last year?

"I am looking forward to seeing the show expanding with new personalities live on stage, judging the Show Borders Competition with a different brief this year to inspire visitors. The offering of delicious food and drink, boutique shopping all surrounded by the beautiful grounds of Belvoir Castle."

8. And finally, what’s next for David Domoney? Any exciting projects we should keep our eyes (and trowels) on?

An exciting YouTube TV show, Step by Step Gardening with David Domoney, filmed at Bridgemere Show Gardens, will be released monthly. Head to my YouTube channel to see the first two episodes.
