Looking for a heart-warming, fun-filled family adventure this festive season? The Littlest Yak is the perfect Christmas treat. LAStheatre’s adaptation of Lu Fraser and Kate Hindley’s award-winning picture book brings Gertie’s snowy, mountainous world to life with charming puppets, toe-tapping tunes and a message that will stay with families long after the curtain falls.

Here are five reasons why The Littlest Yak is a must-see this Christmas:

1. A Cast Full of Fun & Mountain Mischief

The performers behind Gertie and her yak friends bring bundles of warmth, humour and festive sparkle to the stage. With expressive puppetry, catchy tunes, and a fun dance routine to join in with, the cast creates a world where little yaks dream big and even the tallest cliffs can be conquered with a bit of courage. Expect surprises, giggles and plenty of heart-melting moments. All performed within an intimate, comfortable theatre space, making the show a relaxed introduction to theatre for little ones.

2. Based on the Award-Winning Book by Lu Fraser & Kate Hindley

Gertie the yak may be the littlest, but she’s big on determination, especially when it comes to growing up fast. Adapted from the beloved picture book The Littlest Yak, winner of the 2021 Oscar’s Book Prize, this production captures the story’s charm and heart. Families will be swept into Gertie’s snowy mountain home as she learns that being small doesn’t mean being less, and that sometimes, being you is exactly what the world needs. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the book yet, as copies of The Littlest Yak can be purchased with your tickets and collected when you arrive. Perfect for snuggling up with after the show.

3. A Relaxed Introduction to Theatre for Little Ones

The Littlest Yak is performed within an intimate, comfortable theatre space and friendly staff are on hand throughout the performance. The show is tailored for ages 3+ to keep young audiences captivated, making it a lovely first theatre show for small children.

4. More Than Just a Show — A Festive Day Out For The Whole Family

After enjoying the performance, families can enjoy a beautiful winter’s day walk around Highfield’s Park boating lake, which has a flat, easy path perfect for pushchairs, wheelchairs and little legs. There are also plenty of opportunities to explore, with bridges, waterfalls and a few hidden surprises. And for an extra treat? Enjoy a warming hot chocolate or festive snack from the Pavilion Café which offers beautiful lake views.  Stuck for family activities post-Christmas day? The Littlest Yak runs until Sunday 4th January 2026.

It’s a show that resonates with children and adults alike, offering an uplifting message wrapped in music, magic and snowy mountain charm.
