On a brisk autumnal morning, a Visit Nottinghamshire blogger headed out to a quaint north Nottinghamshire town to discover Southwell Minster, a 900-year old stone cathedral and one of the county's major heritage landmarks. 

If someone asked you, “How would you like to walk around a dark room, blindfolded with a futuristic backpack on for 15 minutes”, what would you say? No? Let me rephrase that. How would you like to explore a world where up is down and down is up, where the laws of physics are optional, where flying whales and parrot rays have replaced the birds and glowing blue orbs guide you ultimately to an ancient alien temple?

The festive season is exhausting, and sometimes you just need a bit of time to step back, sit down and relax. Well, this is where Thor’s Tipi comes in. For the first time ever this giant festive tent has rolled into Nottingham’s Trinity Square, just a stone’s throw from intu Victoria Centre and Old Market Square.

Visit Notts can’t help but take our hats off to the seventh Duchess of Bedford, who is believed to be the reason that it is now socially acceptable to consume loads of sugary sweet cakes and scones laden with jam and cream in the middle of the day: that most quintessential of British institutions, afternoon tea. We headed to the St James Hotel to try their version.

What better way to be introduced to the poetry community than by award-winning poet and writer George Szirtes, and local poet Lauren Foster? Emily Dormer, guest writer for Visit Notts, went to check out the Inspire Poetry Festival.

Visit Notts ventured back in time to discover the history of Nottingham through experiencing working-class Victorian nightlife. The Malt Cross is a revived jewel of the past that gave Nottingham a distinctly lively character, and we couldn't resist the chance to re-live it.
