Exploring salsa music from its roots, through its peak in the 70's with Salsa Brava, to its contemporary form. Inspired by composers & interpreters such as Cachao, Joe Cuba, Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Oscar D'León, Poncho Sánchez, Buena Vista Social Club.
"Latin-based but firmly in modern jazz territory, with any one of the five liable to reel off dazzling solos, it's a truly great band that you'd be daft to miss." – Stratford Jazz
Edgar Macías presents Salseros UK, this time fronted by the renown Venezuelan vocalist, Lino Rocha from Salsa Celtica and Afro-Cuban All Stars, to name a few, and also featuring Venezuelan multi-percussionist and singer Nestor Pedrales.
Edgar Macías Salseros UK explores and performs Salsa roots music of the late 60's, through to its peak during the 70's with the likes of Salsa Brava, and then on to contemporary Salsa, inspired by composers and interpreters such as Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Héctor Lavoe, Oscar D'León, Pete "El Conde" Rodríguez, Joe Arroyo, Cheo Feliciano, Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro, among others. Also featuring two of Lino's original compositions, and introducing the music of Grupo Mango, award winning Venezuelan Sextet (Best Sextet of the year in 1976 by Record World Magazine) and another Venezuelan salsa band, Guaco.
Lino Rocha Lino G Rocha is a singer/songwriter/percussionist. Venezuelan born of Portuguese heritage and raised in the UK, Lino began his musical career in the late eighties, performing with some of the top national/international Afro-Latin bands/artists, including Roberto Pla's Latin Ensemble, La Clave De Londres, Salsa Celtica, Charlie Palmieri, Giovanni Hidalgo, Grupo Guaco, Yuri Buenaventura, Tito Allen, and Juan de Marcos of Afro- Cuban All Stars, to name a few.
Lino's vocal abilities have surpassed normal musical boundaries, effortlessly blending various genres as and when required. These can be from soulful subtlety to urban rasping rap and all the way to streetwise Salsa, or the passion of Fado, Tango, and anything else in between. Lino's cultural experiences, unique soulful diverse vocal talent, and command of the Portuguese, Spanish and English languages, makes him one of the most prolific and talented artists on the music scene.
