The Finn Carter Quartet comprises some of the most important up and coming London musicians. Led by pianist and composer Finn Carter, the members of this group all approach improvising from the same perspective: trying to serve the music and remove the ego from improvising. With credits including Loyle Carner, Rex Orange County, Sampha and Tom Misch, these in-demand players are all technically virtuosic, but the music they create together is more than that; it is sensitive, emotive and synergistic.
The quartet members' shared approach to improvising is also supported by their diverse range of influences which, combined with a deep knowledge of the jazz tradition, allow the music to explore new territories each time they play together.
Compositionally, Carter's tunes showcase a blending of his love of jazz, soul, hip- hop and free music, which allows his music to feel both deeply personal and widely accessible. Playing their first show quartet in late 2021, the Finn Carter Quartet have had a string of successful, sold-out shows, including a main show at Ronnie Scott's and closing out Brick Lane Jazz festival 2022. In late 2022 they went to Arda Recorders in Porto to record Carter's debut album, entitled 'Hymn For My Dad', which will be released later this year.
