Iron Giant: A Valley’s Story 2026

About

Sunday 6th September 2026 | 1pm - 4pm
Bennerley Viaduct

A free storytelling event at The Iron Giant, Bennerley Viaduct

Come along to Bennerley Viaduct to hear storytelling sessions on the skywalk. The stories have been adapted from a poem telling the history of Bennerley Viaduct, known as the Iron Giant,  and will be bought to life by local theatre group Beeston Players.

While there, explore Britian’s longest iron viaduct, the unique Victorian bridge 18 metres above the Erewash Valley, an iconic landmark and key heritage destination within the Borough featuring a quarter-mile long sky walk. Find out about the industrial history, what it was like in it’s hey day to it’s rescue by ‘The Friends of Bennerley Viaduct’ and transformation to what it is today whilst taking in spectacular views of the Erewash Valley.

Victorian street theatre will be taking place throughout the event, accompanied by industrial themed live music from The Hot Dogs Brass Band, adding to the experience and taking you back to the railway era. You'll also have the chance to enjoy an interactive coal mining talk by David Coleman.

Make sure to visit the brand new visitor centre and café while there - a great chance to grab a coffee and a cake and chat to some of ‘The Friends of Bennerley Viaduct’ volunteers.

The event is free, but please consider gifting a donation to ‘The Friends of Bennerley Viaduct’ whilst there.
