"The reason I sing" – Sam Smith
A return to Peggy's Skylight for singer-pianist Joanna Eden and her band. This prolific singer/songwriter is referred to as 'The reason I sing' by superstar ex-singing student and Grammy/Oscar winner Sam Smith. Expect Eden's enigmatic and heart-warming compositions combined with those of influences like Joni Mitchell, and Stephen Sondheim.
With regular performing, writing and recording trips to Brazil and Uruguay, Eden's compositions are infused with intoxicating South American grooves and textures enhanced by Uruguayan bassist Andrés Lafone and guitarist Guillermo Hill alongside leading UK drummer George Double.
Bass player Andrés Lafone is one of the pioneers of the UK Latin/Jazz scene. He has over 50 albums to his credit and has worked with Airto Moreira, Snowboy, Jon Cleary, Basia, Matt Bianco, Da Lata, Negrocan, Monica Vasconcelos, Mike Lindup and others.
Guitarist Guillermo Hill is a regular on the jazz/Brazilian scene appearing with artists such as Ola Onabule, Mica Paris, Tom Jones, John Crawford, Monica Vasconcelos
Drummer George Double has played with Mica Paris, Art Themen, John Etheridge, Jack Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey.
