Rooted in centuries-old customs, May Day marks the turning of the seasons and is a joyful celebration of renewal, community, and the blooming countryside. Set against the stunning backdrop of Belvoir Castle, this special event brings these traditions to life with a vibrant programme of activities for all ages.


What's On: Castle Terrace & Lawn
Start your day with the enchanting spectacle of maypole dancing, performed by pupils from Denton Primary School—a much-loved British tradition symbolising unity and community spirit.

Throughout the day, enjoy:

  • Traditional Morris dancing by New St George Morris Dancers
  • A roaming Belvoir Castle bagpiper
  • A lively afternoon performance by Burton Joyce Brass Band
  • Classic lawn games for all ages
  • Face painting by Miles for Smiles
  • Take time to relax on the lawn and soak up the festive atmosphere, surrounded by the beauty of the Belvoir estate.
