Dare you come face to face with the terrifying Krampus in the heart of Sherwood Forest? Join the RSPB Visitor Centre at Sherwood Forest for a very special Sherwood appearance of these devilish spirits on Saturday 15th January, which are celebrated - and feared - in many countries across the world in winter-time.

Then on Sunday, join the Green Man, the timeless spirit of rebirth and regrowth, as he leads the ancient custom of Wassailing at Sherwood and toasts the health of the forest for the year ahead. The Lady Bay Revellers Morris Dancing group will be performing at the Visitor Centre amphitheatre as part of the merry-making.

Then take part in a rough parade to the Major Oak, making plenty of noise to scare off the terrifying Krampus spirits who will have taken up residence in the Forest.

Bring a light, lantern or torch to illuminate the way back as dusk falls and the shadows lengthen across Sherwood Forest.

The activities are free except for crafting simple bird-seed shakers to make some noise on the parade and to feed the birds in your garden once you return home.

Shakers can be made for just £1 throughout the day at the Visitor Centre ahead of the parade.
