About

Hanwell Wine Estate | Melton Mowbray
£60.00 per person

Join experience tutor Helen, and learn some of the skills required for braiding with threads & yarns. Making braids and cords is such a useful skill for any textile person - weaver, knitter, or other. It's not just about making braids, it's what you can do with threads, yarns and ends that can give that extra finishing touch to a project or garment. This workshop is a must for anyone wishing to add some key skills to their repertoire, making braids and cords with minimal or no special equipment.

The workshop will take place in the 100sqm converted craft barn with stunning views of the open Nottinghamshire countryside of Hanwell Wine Estate. The setting provides the perfect space to relax and engage in your passion while learning new useful skills.

What you will learn:
  • An insight to how braids, tapes and cords are constructed.
  • Three different techniques to make different braids, using a range of yarns.
  • How to apply these skills and experiment with different yarns and materials.
  • What yarns and materials work well for each technique.
  • How to take your interest further after the workshop.
Outline of the session:
  • Welcome and refreshments
  • Introduction to tools & materials
  • Demo and learning of different braid techniques
  • Morning/afternoon tea & cake
  • Discussion of yarns, materials and resources
  • Practice time! Work on braids and explore different materials
  • Recap, show & tell, depart with your finished braids

What is included: Refreshments and materials will be provided

What you need to bring: Nothing to bring, just yourself, however, if you have some favourite yarns, or favourite fabric cut into 1"/2.5cm wide strips then please bring these along with you.

No prior knowledge is required, this course is designed for beginners.
