Love Notts - Winner's Story

When we asked lovers of Nottinghamshire to get creative and snap a photo of a loved one in a much loved location – we were delighted by the entries we received. We were perhaps even more delighted to hand the responsibility of choosing a winner over to guest judge, Martine Hamilton Knight (of Line + Light photography) – who had the unenviable task of sifting through entries in search of the most creative and/or romantic vision. Of course, as an experienced photographer, Martine had no trouble in declaring our winner, choosing to opt for Marie and Alan Lomax’s ‘candlelit supper’ at Newark Castle. “It's creative, it's romantic, its Nottinghamshire, what more could you ask? ...In fact, I'd go so far as to say it’s exactly the sort of image that makes running a photo competition worth it.” Martine Hamilton Knight. It was clear to see that this was a great choice – with the photo receiving positive comments in abundance when posted via our Love Notts page. And with every great photo – comes a great story, as Marie explained; “..Creating this photo was fun but freeeeezing! Everyone who passed in their cars were tooting their horns... Bet they thought we were mad.” What made the prize all the more sweeter for the pair, came the news that last Valentines, Alan was in hospital for a hip replacement – and the only chance for romance was the exchanging of cards at his hospital bedside. The winning couple were treated to a trio of prizes including relaxing massages at The Nottingham Belfry, a fine dining experience at Le Bistrot Pierre, and  a luxurious stay at the four star Mercure Nottingham City Centre Hotel. Love was certainly in the air in Nottingham City during a chilly weekend in February, as our Valentine’s competition winners enjoyed their prize. Our lucky pair even had time to enjoy other adventures in the City, finding places they hadn’t yet discovered – even after being locals for over thirty five years! “A lovely day was had going around Nottingham castle - I have lived in the area over 35 years and have never been before and really enjoyed looking round.” On their return, Marie posted a wonderful set of photos – documenting their weekend in Nottingham ( the full set being available to view on the Love Notts page). Thanks to their hard work, creative flair – and enthusiasm for Nottinghamshire, Marie and Alan Lomax enjoyed a Valentines to remember. Will it be you next time?
