We asked Joey from The Music Exchange to tell us a bit more about Record Store Day and what is happening at The Music Exchange and in Nottingham to celebrate.     The original idea for Record Store Day was conceived and founded in the USA back in 2007 as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding independently owned record stores in not only the USA but internationally. The UK soon followed suit in 2008 and has been growing gradually ever since. From a handful of stores in the first year, Record Store Day UK now plays host to over 190 stores. On April 21st 2012, all of the independently owned record stores join forces with artists to celebrate the art of music. These artists make special appearances and performances across the globe alongside an extensive list of hundreds of exclusive products available for the day. At The Music Exchange we have been participating in Record Store Day UK for two years. As part of this year's event we will have an exclusive Nottingham compilation on vinyl courtesy of Nu-Start Records a label set up and run by students at the Nottingham University Samworth Academy, all profits from the sale of the record will go to Framework. During the day we will have DJing from Anders (Hello Thor Records) and Paul K (Leftlion), Acoustic performances from We Show Up On Radar (Hello Thor Records) and Michael Feerick (Amusement Parks On Fire), we have 10% off all new stock, A free tea or coffee for the first 50 people care of Aubrey's Creperie and over 300 exclusive vinyl titles available for the day. The fantastic fourbeatwalk will be decorating the shop and providing a window display. We will be open 9am - 5pm and we are cash only.
