1,000 artists, 100 nations, 1 city

World Event Young Artists, 7 - 16 September 2012 

Nottingham will welcome 1,000 artists from 100 nations when it hosts the World Event Young Artists festival next month, the very first event of its kind, bringing together and celebrating the talent and artistic excellence of young people from across the globe.

Over 30 venues across the city, including Nottingham Contemporary, Broadway Cinema, New Art Exchange, Nottingham Castle, Nottingham Playhouse and the Royal Concert Hall, as well as many artist led galleries and alternative spaces, will host exhibitions and performances across genres including music, photography, theatre, gastronomy and literature, turning the whole city into a bustling art festival space.

Over a period of 10 days, these artists will bring the city to life with creative activity, showcasing their practice, exchanging ideas and building future collaborations.

Highlights include A world of ideas in a week, a music event and one of the festival launch events curated by BBC 6 Music DJ Giles Petersen; The Beginning by emerging playwright Michael Pinchbeck; and Singing the World Event, a participatory event where alternative composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven will work with the 2,000 strong audience to create an unforgettable choral event.

The majority of the events are free to attend, and the Old Market Square in the heart of the city will be the festival hub, hosting events and information for festival goers all week.
