Tucked away on the outskirts of the Lace Market is a comfortable, relaxing retreat where hard workers can unwind and the fashionable come out to play. This hidden gem is called Pepper Rocks, a creperie and bar located off Bridlesmith Gate. The bar and restaurant itself has a relaxed, ambient vibe which is complimented by candles flickering and moody music. We met the owner, Tom, who was working behing the bar and greeted us cheerily before taking us to our seats (big plush sofas). We sunk into the sofas and enjoyed the ambient playlist including Massive Attack whilst chatting about our day and perusing the menu. The menu was a delight and everything seemed delicious; sweet crepes and savoury gallettes and other mouthwatering light bites. I opted for a salmon and cheese gallette, and my friend went for a Nutella and banana crepe. Each looked as delicious as the other, but I wouldn’t have exchanged mine for anything. The service was fantastic, quick, efficient and friendly. They offered up a generous helping of smoked salmon laid on top of a bed of light cream cheese, all wrapped up in a thin, warm pancake as a delectable package. The cheese melted on the warm gallette and into the salmon and it was topped by a small layer of spinach which added a distinct crunch and topped the gallette with a scrumptious mix of textures and flavours.   The crepe looked as equally delicious – a thick layer of nutella melting into the slices of soft banana, creating a pure taste sensation! My friends face said it all- this one is perfect for those with a sweet tooth. We were also delighted with the cocktails we ordered afterwards. Both were very different; the ever popular Cosmopolitan, and the more unusual Espressotini; a mix of vodka and coffee. The Espressotini was surprisingly fresh, and offered an unexpected kick. It was even topped with real coffee beans a frothy milk. Overall, I’d say it’s an enigmatic, trendy little bar/creperie with so much to offer, and is the perfect place to unwind. The music gets a little more lively after 9-10pm but before that the mellow vibe and ambience makes it a perfect place to bring a loved one for a romantic rendezvous , or a chilled catch up with a friend. They also offer open-mic nights every Tuesday and special events throughout the year and are keen for new suggestions and ideas.
Pepper Rocks currently don’t have a website, but they do have a very active Facebook Page which you can find here, which has all the latest details of promotions, open-mic nights and events. You can also follow them on Twitter.
