In Notts we love May. A step closer to summer and the start of the festival season, all sandwiched between two Bank Holidays! Here is our roundup of the best May events across the city and county, including a special focus on events with that local feel. Local  Notts Get on your dancing shoes, as The Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard transport you back in time on 6 May for a 1940s Kneesup. Head to North Nottinghamshire on Saturday 11 May for Made at Welbeck. Producers and artisans on the Welbeck Estate will be coming together to share their enthusiasm for local produce and artisan skills. The Welbeck Farm Shop, Harley Gallery and Lime House Café will be open as usual too!  Newark Showground plays host to the annual Nottinghamshire County Show on 11-12 May. A celebration of agriculture, the show attracts thousands of visitors with traditional displays from livestock showing classes to the more unusual sheep racing. Creswell Crags are holding a fabulous vintage and handmade fair on 19 May. Join them a vintage tea room, cars & a vintage hair and make-up stylist between 11am-5pm. Where else would be better to celebrate spring bank holiday than Wellow? This charming Nottinghamshire village is home to one of the only permanent Maypoles in the country. Join locals for Maypole dancing, entertainment and find out who will be crowned this year's Maypole queen. Arts & Entertainment Tickets are still available for The Kite Runner following its eagerly awaited European stage premiere at Nottingham Playhouse and runs until 11 May. This haunting tale of friendship spans cultures and continents and follows one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption. Southwell Minster will be holding a special textiles exhibition which commemorates the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. You can see Labour of Love: Embroidery's Tribute from 18 May. Nottingham Contemporary is currently host to work by Turner Prize Winner Mark Turner. Visit throughout May to see latest exhibition; The Universal Addressability of Dumb Things. Great for Families May is the month for bluebells, and Hodsock Priory invite you to discover their enchanting Bluebell Wood. Visit between 4-12 May to explore the historic grounds, with special dawn chorus walks with Verdant Wildlife, too. Fancy walking on water? Well you can at Water Meadows! Lakeside's International Children's Theatre and Dance Festival returns to Lakeside Arts Centre on 25 May for inspiring theatre and the Luminarium.
