This week we have a featured blog from Sian Kirby, a local lady telling us about her family's favourite places to visit in Nottinghamshire.

My children love the outdoors and some of my favourite places in Nottinghamshire are where we can go as a family and it doesn't cost the earth.

Bridgford Park in the centre of West Bridgford is great for my children and lets me combine shopping with entertaining the children. Since it has been refurbished it is better than ever, with so much to do for all age ranges. We can easily spend a whole morning there, then have a picnic on the grass nearby before heading home. I would probably say those families with children under 10 would probably get the most of the park. There is a cafe a short walk away and more importantly clean toilets nearby too (although you do have to pay for them).

Rushcliffe Country Park is another favourite, as it is local to us and easy to get to. We also have a dog, so on a Sunday afternoon we can walk off our Sunday dinner with the dog in tow then let the children loose on the playground. I have also taken part in the Rushcliffe 10k in this park which is well organised and scenic off road race, with even a little mini race for the children.

Sherwood Pines would also be on my list as a great family day out with the children. This is slightly further for us, but certainly worth a visit. It is perfect for cycling with children and the family trail is a real confidence booster for little ones who have just learnt to ride. Last year I participated in a 10k run here which was a fun family day out. Again the children got to participate in the mini fun run, which they loved.

We have yet to try Go Ape as a family, but as soon as the children get slightly older it is on my to do list!

Thank you to Sian for sending us her blog!
