Nottingham’s gearing up for Carnival this weekend, with a host of local music talent preparing to take to the stage alongside Carnival legends and international, chart-topping acts. The Red Bull Music Academy 2013 Carnival Series arrives at the renowned Nottingham Carnival on Saturday 17th August, ahead of its visit to the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival on 26 August.Red Bull Music Academy, Nottingham Carnival 2012 Leading this year’s line-up at the Forest Recreation Ground is Ben Westbeech, aka Breach. His mix of futuristic suburban soul, fuzzy-edged funk, unpretentious pop and freshly-laced hip hop, has already seen him smashing his way into the UK top 10 with single ‘Jack’. Joining Breach will be brothers Channel One, who are celebrating over 30 years as one of the UK’s leading dub reggae sound systems. Also taking to the stage will be Red Bull Music Academy 2013 participants T. Williams and Throwing Snow. They’re all joined by Nottingham production outfit Elementz, creating some of the best new music the UK has to offer, as well as roots and reggae masters Highness Sound System and scene stalwarts RubberDub and Mimm. Completing this year’s Nottingham bill is Congo Natty ft Congo Dubz, Nanci & Phoebe and Bristol duo Jus Now, who will be unleashing their spirited fusion of Trinidadian Soca rhythms with the sub heavy sound of the UK underground. Some of Nottingham’s leading young designers will also be showcasing their work in conjunction with independent clothing shop Mimm. Couple all of that with the waft of jerk chicken and horns blaring in the distance, and it seems that Nottingham is ready to embrace the Red Bull Music Academy’s Carnival spirit and celebrate the best that the city has to offer.
