Theatre-lovers will be able to enjoy a rich programme of professional and amateur productions this autumn at the newly-refurbished Bonington Theatre in Arnold.
The theatre, which is on High Street, has undergone a dramatic transformation and now boasts new lighting and PA systems in the auditorium, along with electronic seating. The bar has also been redecorated and the new lighting and furniture creates a warm, intimate atmosphere.
It was unveiled by the leader of Gedling Borough Council John Clarke at a celebration event held on 27th September.
At the ceremony, theatre consultant Chris Baldwin, from Act Consultant Services, said: “We started in the auditorium and we found that we had 140 lights, many of which had been in use for 40 to 45 years. As well as improving the facilities technically, we also had to think about the visual improvements in this space. I hope you enjoy it.”
Work started on the theatre at the beginning of the year and if you go along, I’m sure you’ll agree that the renovation is excellent. Some of the upcoming events include a brand new Simon and Garfunkel show called A Night in New York (12th October) and a production of the Victorian thriller Gaslight by the Bonington Players (16th - 19th October). So if you are looking for a bit of escapism as the nights start drawing in then Bonington Theatre is a hidden gem which is definitely worth a visit.
The theatre is operated by Gedling Borough Council. For more details on upcoming shows visit www.gedling.gov.uk.
