Lose yourself in the romantic surroundings of Byron's Brasserie

Last week I paid a visit to the newly opened Byron’s Brasserie, located at the picturesque Colwick Hall Hotel. When I received the invitation to give Nottinghamshire’s latest restaurant a try, I understandably jumped at the opportunity, given that Lord Byron is one of the county's most iconic figures whose poetry has delighted people around the world for more than 200 years. As soon as you step foot in the door of Byron’s Brasserie, you are swept into a setting of period features, crossed with modern furniture and vintage décor. The mixture is clever and perfect for a restaurant seeking to capture the atmosphere and mood of 17th century England. Comfy seating in the entrance, perfect for a leisurely drink, make way for a grand bar, with a backdrop of Roman-style pillars. Paintings of Byron and some of his lovers adorn the walls, overlooking you as you settle down for a comfortable drink and browse the menu. His lyrics cover the walls, providing plenty for you to marvel at as you sit enjoying the surroundings. I have to say the food was not only immaculately presented, but tasted amazing. I ordered the chicken covered in apple and pastry on a potato cake base garnished with vegetables and a white wine sauce. A very tasty dish if I say so myself. The service was top-notch, with nothing too much trouble or fuss. The wait for food was minimal so if you arrive with an empty belly, you won’t need to wait long to satisfy your hunger. To cap off a perfect dining experience, I was presented with the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake dessert. All I could say was: “WOW”. The presentation was yet again perfect, with detail written in chocolate around the edge of the plate. Again, the taste was heavenly, and I am not just saying that because I have a sweet tooth! I comfortably spent two hours sat enjoying the view, the food and the ambience. All in all, my lunch experience at Byron’s Brasserie was as heavenly and romantic as the poems written by the man himself. You can’t help but fall in love with the restaurant's charm and historical denotations. Whether you want a romantic get-away at Colwick Hall and enjoy a meal at the Brasserie as part of your experience, or you simply fancy enjoying the Brasserie as a stand-alone experience, I highly recommend you try a meal at the ancestral home of Nottinghamshire’s legendary wordsmith.
