If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise!  For Forest Holidays in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire is currently undergoing a major extension to the number of cabins on offer  – including the brand new Golden Oak Hideaway cabins, which Forest Holidaysare built exclusively for a couple’s holiday.  This cosy love-nest comes complete with a hot tub, wood burning stove, a large sunken bath big enough for two with a private panoramic view of the forest from your window and even a hammock on your own secluded decking area. Now there’s no need to wait until Valentine’s Day; you can enjoy a romantic break whatever the time of year!  In fact, we are led to believe, the spot is so dreamy that many people choose to propose here – but I will leave that one up to you. What struck me as we walked through the delightful countryside of Sherwood Forest on a site inspection of Forest Holidays’ new cabins was the distinct lack of uniformity of the layout of the cabins – so no two cabins overlook each other and privacy is maintained as much as is feasibly possible – perfect for that get-away-from-it-all kind of experience. Forest Holidays We donned our hard hats and high-vis jackets for a forage around the forest to find some of the other new cabins which are due for completion in June.  There are 17 brand new cabins under construction as well as a conversion of two existing cabins to treehouses, to bring the total number of treehouses to three, so, if a romantic break is not the order of the day, there are plenty of other options for you to choose from.  I particularly liked the fact that all of the cabins are eco-friendly, built with LED lighting, floor to ceiling double glazing for maximum light and airiness and controllable under-floor heating. Forest HolidaysI also liked the fact that the cabins are built with the minimum impact on the forest they inhabit.  “We try to leave as much of the forest as native as we possibly can,” we were reliably informed by the Site Building Manager, Aaron Brown, who was giving us a brilliant show-round of the new development. It was clear to see that this ambition was being maintained by the developers as very few trees had been felled to make way for the cabins and, once completed, the matting that had been put down to allow the construction work to take place, was easily peeled away to leave the natural habitat behind.  Neither had the building work impacted on the wildlife – the deer were still seen every morning and the owls and birds of prey were also frequent visitors to the site. Just down the road from Forest Holidays are the nearby attractions of Sherwood Pines and Go Ape.  These two great facilities offer fun for all the family with cycling and Segway trails and the chance to fly down zip-wires, leap off Tarzan Swings and tackle crossings whilst enjoying some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery. There is also much to do on-site or nearby if you prefer.  Take part in archery, enjoy one of the many nearby walking trails or experience a pony trekking trip.  Click here for a full list of what’s on offer, or, if it’s more to your liking, you can just enjoy the peace and quiet.  With a ‘no noise’ policy after 10pm, the only sounds you will hear are the tooting of the owls or the rustling of the squirrels.  Sounds perfect, don’t you think? So, if you’re looking for a place to get away from it all whilst still having all of the amenities on your doorstep you could not find a better place to stay.  You can even bring your dog for a small additional charge – I’m sure he’d love the chance to get away with you instead of being left behind in the doggy kennels!
