The Fifa World Cup starts today but not everyone has been gripped by football fever. If you want a break from the constant football chatter then we have plenty of ideas for things to do around Nottinghamshire, including pubs and restaurants where you can have a relaxed drink or bite to eat. Or why not take the opportunity to visit some of our attractions before indulging in a spot of relaxation at one of our many spas? Make sure you check out the What’s On section of our website for more upcoming events. 1) Immerse yourself in a tank at Calm Water Floatation Sometimes it’s impossible to find utter peace and tranquility, particularly during the drama of the World Cup. However at Nottingham’s Calm Water Floatation, you can immerse yourself in a tank of water containing an Epson salt solution which will allow you to float effortlessly away and instantly forget all about the football. After your 90-minute session you will emerge feeling calm and refreshed. See what the EN team thought of Calm Water Floatation in this blog. 2) Treat yourself to tapas with friends Spain may be among the favourites to win the World Cup but if you’d rather explore the country’s culinary culture rather than its football then make sure you book a table at Escabeche in West Bridgford. While the rest of the country is sat inside with eyes glued to the television screen, you can take advantage of the outdoor terrace and enjoy a selection of tapas, along with a refreshing glass of beer or wine. 3) Go deep underground in one of Nottinghamshire’s caves Inside Nottinghamshire’s vast network of caves you can be sure of one thing – there won’t be a football match in sight! Visit the City of Caves and you will discover how our famous sandstone caves have been used over the years. Meanwhile, at Creswell Crags you can journey back to the last Ice Age by taking a tour of Robin Hood Cave. 4) Get back to basics at the Doctor’s Orders The Doctor’s Orders, Nottingham’s first micropub, will be offering beer and cider lovers a sanctuary away from the football action. The pub, which is just a short bus ride from the city centre, is known for the fact that it does not have a television screen and it will be making no exception for the World Cup, even if England get into the final. However, conversation about the tournament is perfectly welcome. 5) Cycle around the trails at Sherwood Pines Flee the World Cup on two wheels by taking an exhilarating – or relaxing – ride around the trails at Sherwood Pines. The country park, which is near Edwinstowe, has a seemingly endless choice of trails for people of all abilities. There are also cycle routes at nearby Clumber Park.
