National Express is today (Tuesday 11 November, 2014) announcing Nottingham is one of the UK's top Christmas destinations - according to advanced bookings figures.

The coach operator is revealing demand for travel to Nottingham over the Christmas period is snowballing - just as the city gets into gear for Christmas.

During the week of Christmas (Monday 21 December – Sunday 28 December) Saturday 27 December is the most popular day to travel to Nottingham.

Meanwhile the spike in bookings coincides with the opening of Nottingham’s excellent traditional German themed Christmas Market which runs until Sunday 4 January and includes and old England theme a real ice rink, a covered winter bar and the world's only Helter Skelter Bar.

To make travel even more affordable National Express is offering single fares from Nottingham to hundreds of destinations across the country such as Sheffield, Leeds and London for just £9 this month.

The offer is available until the end of the month, and customers can use their £9 tickets until Thursday 11 December.

Despite the annual rail shutdown on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, National Express has pledged to continue to run coach services throughout the Christmas period – ensuring those who want to travel can still do so.

The top ten most popular Christmas market destinations over the festive period are:

  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • Cardiff
  • Manchester
  • Leeds
  • Bournemouth
  • Nottingham
  • Leicester
  • Southampton
  • Plymouth

National Express UK Coach Managing Director Tom Stables said: “The winter weather is already drawing in but with it comes the excitement of the Christmas countdown and shopping at Christmas markets such as Nottingham’s to get in the festive spirit.

“We promise to continue to run our coach services throughout Christmas making sure those who can’t catch a train can still visit their friends and loved ones."
