Join Lakeside and New Street Theatre on a uniquely Nottingham yellow brick road to meet Scarecrow, Dorothy, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion in musical sensation The Wiz. Following the success of Sweeney Todd, Little Shop of Horrors and last year’s Oh What a Lovely War, Director Martin Berry brings his trademark flair – and maybe some flares – to this thrilling musical set in Nottingham in the early 70s, when Northern Soul was the greatest dance, music and style craze in the land. Lakeside and New Street Theatre bring together town and gown in a brilliantly collaborative project involving University of Nottingham alumni, students, and members of the local community who want to share their passion for musical theatre with others, performing on a professional stage. This amateur production is driven and supported by a professional artistic team from New Street Theatre and Lakeside and is performed by a diverse and talented local cast who have been auditioned and selected from Nottingham’s rich seam of community theatre and individual performers. The production has been designed by a final year student from Nottingham Trent University’s Theatre Design degree programme, and built by dedicated volunteers. The cast and production company are brilliantly supported by a crew of exceptional Assistants working in props, design, technical and production roles. Director, Martin Berry says: 'I am thrilled to once again be leading this exceptional project with Lakeside. The cast, band and creative team have created a production that is unique and incredibly vibrant, bringing wonderful music, dance, singing and drama to the Lakeside stage. One thing is for certain: everybody watching this show will leave the building with a song in their hearts and a spring in their step. It really is such fun for the summer season... from the Lion to the Scarecrow and even our very own tortoise in a starring role.' Grab your ruby sneakers, polish off those dance moves, click your heels three times and enjoy The Wizard of Oz as you have never seen it before. The production runs from Tuesday 14th – Saturday 25th July 2015 with an open dress rehearsal on Monday 13th July.
