For one of Nottingham's city-centre hotels, it's a period of 'out with the old and in with the new', so naturally I had to go behind the scenes and catch a glimpse of what visitors can expect upon checking in for their next stay. The Park Plaza Hotel in Nottingham is blessed with already having a perfect location and superb facilities. It's right in the heart of the city, within walking distance of all the major shops, restaurants, nightlife, entertainment venues and attractions. Situated on Maid Marian Way, just a stones throw from the Old Market Square, the Park Plaza is a haven of luxury and simplicity in a bustling city environment. Upon my arrival at the hotel, I was warmly greeted by the hotel's General Manager, Tom Waldron-Lynch, who is very excited by the work taking place. Tom's worked at the Park Plaza for four years and has a wealth of experience behind him. The work should finish in March 2016, with all 178 rooms receiving a revamp along with the corridors throughout the hotel. It's no easy job refurbishing a hotel of this size while it's open for business, but Tom and the team have a plan in place so that everything runs like clockwork. First, we ventured to the first floor, where some rooms have already been completed. The first thing I noticed when entering the rooms was the sheer space the hotel has at its disposal. Few city-centre hotels have rooms this big, so you're definitely receiving value for money when you stay here. The new look is classy, comfortable and simple, everything the modern-day hotel room needs to be. Tom and the team at the Park Plaza are certainly offering uniqueness to their rooms too. Brand new USB sockets are being installed in every room next to the beds - ideal for the technology-loving 21st century world we live in where everything needs charging 24/7, whether it be smart phones or smart watches. Every bed now features a state-of-the-art pillow top mattress, guaranteeing a comfortable nights sleep in every room. Secondary glazing is being installed to further sound proof the rooms and the entire hotel is having a brand new air-conditioning system installed, enabling temperatures to be tweaked on a room-by-room basis - catering to every individual guests needs. New flooring is being laid throughout the hotel in both the corridors and rooms, with a warm, homely, scripted carpet to provide a cosy and inviting feel. As if the refurbishment wasn't already enough, to top it all off, the Park Plaza boasts it's own Chino Latino restaurant on the ground floor serving the finest in oriental cuisine, so you don't even have to brave the brisk winter weather if you're feeling hungry. If you do venture out, then just around the corner is the newly opened Oaks Restaurant, serving freshly made meaty dishes, cooked on Sherwood Forest wood embers - a real flavour of Nottinghamshire right on your doorstep. It's a sign of the hotel's popularity that it's receiving all the love and attention Tom and the team are offering it. It's by no means outdated at the moment, but with some state-of-the-art 21st century additions and refurbished rooms, it simply adds to the quality you receive when staying at Nottingham's Park Plaza Hotel. If you're looking to book a stay in Nottingham then be sure to head over to the Park Plaza website for the latest prices and availability.
