On a bright September day, 18 lovely ladies piled into the Pudding Pantry to give into temptation, indulge and celebrate the forthcoming and hotly anticipated arrival of our friend’s baby boy. An afternoon tea of epic proportions was promised and it most certainly did not disappoint! The team at the pantry dressed our table with beautiful vintage ware; mismatched floral plates and pretty tea cups and saucers; after all, a bone china tea cup is surely the only way to drink a proper cup of tea, right? Whilst the ladies chatted and played baby shower games our tea orders were taken swiftly and before we knew it we were being served steaming pots of tea of every variety I think known to man from peppermint to earl grey, camomile to Darjeeling, some of the lucky ones even got a sparkling variety of tea I believe they call prosecco!! Then came the main event...five, 3 tiered cake stands suddenly appeared at our table, filledBaby Shower 4 with scones and complete with jam and fresh cream, cup cakes and the most delicious looking doorstep sandwiches ever seen, filled with an array of fillings from cheese and homemade chutney to hummus and pepper, BBQ'd pulled pork and much more. These were hearty on a man size proportion and were soon polished off! The cakes were absolute, melt in the mouth, perfection too; the type that make you close your eyes and practically purr when you pop them in your mouth, for those reading this don’t pretend you don’t know what I mean! Proudly I have to announce that no fights broke out amongst us ladies during the feast as there was ample food for everyone to enjoy. This was no measly afternoon tea, this was splendid in every way, a modern day twist on a classic that even the man in your life would enjoy (mainly because of generous portion size and again those plentiful sarnies! Hats off to the Pudding Pantry for hosting such a large group for afternoon tea, the service was second to none and the team never looked daunted with our many requests even though we must have aged them several years in just the two hours that we were there. The afternoon tea itself was simply divine, the pantry is renowned for their fabulous array of homemade cakes and quirky flavour combinations and we could all see why! It really does take a lot to impress a bunch of women I can tell you, especially when it comes to this particular afternoon indulgence but Anthony and his team have it spot on. High praise indeed - well and truly deserved! For more information on Afternoon Tea at the Pudding Pantry please visit their website Image credits Ursula Kelly Photography
