With four weeks until the thrilling international short track speed skating event, Star Class, lands on our doorstep, the GB Short Track skaters have taken time out of their busy schedules to inspire Olympians of the future. In January over 3,000 children from 41 different Nottinghamshire schools will descend on the National Ice Centre to see some of the best talent from Western Europe compete together on the ice. Armed with their ice skates and skin-tight suits, footage from races and medals, the school visits formed part of the countdown to the renowned event, Starclass 2016. Three-time Olympian, European gold medallist and world record holder, Jon Eley told us how successful the visits have been so far... “As a team we’re really looking forward to Star Class returning to our home rink in January and these school visits form part of our countdown. “As well as watching videos from races, they tried on our kit, viewed our medals and were especially interested to discover that on average a speed skater travels at 30mph. “The interactive sessions have been extremely successful and it has definitely opened their eyes to the world of short track. The countdown to Starclass 2016 is now on.” Tickets for Star Class 2016, taking place at the National Ice Centre on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January, are now available to purchase from capitalfmarena.com or at the Nottingham Tourism Centre, 1-4 Smithy Row, Nottingham NG1 2BY.
