Framework Knitters Museum Announces Special Winter Opening

Due to public demand the Framework Knitters Museum will extend its opening hours in 2016.  The museum will reopen on 4th February following a short closed period in January to undertake essential maintenance work. The special winter opening hours will run until April, when the Ruddington museum’s regular opening will commence. Paul Baker, Museum Manager, explained, “we have to close the museum for a period every year to carry out essential work on the 18^th century knitting frames and the historic site, yet we always receive a lot of enquiries from people wanting to visit during this time. After re-working the maintenance programme we are able to open for longer this year.” During February and March the museum will be open 11am – 2:30pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Full opening hours from Wednesday to Sunday will resume from Easter. This will be the first time the museum has reopened so early, and is testament to the popularity of the museum since it’s redevelopment in 2014. The Framework Knitters Museum, located on Chapel Street, is situated in a historic 19^th century knitters yard containing two frameshops, as well as cottages where the workers lived and a chapel. It is Nottingham’s only working textile museum. Visitors can discover how the knitters worked and lived, and learn about the trade which gave birth to Nottingham’s Lace Industry and the violent Luddite uprising.
