Each year Splendour Festival attracts thousands of people to the stunning grounds of Wollaton Hall and Deer Park for an all day family-friendly music festival. Expect big names on Saturday 23 July, including Grammy Award winner Jess Glynne and legendary bands The Human League and UB40, as well as some less familiar names rising to fame and from Notts. We caught up with Ellie Keegan, from Warsop in Mansfield, who will be performing on the Acoustic Rooms Stage for the first time ever. Discover more about her sound, what it’s like to be part of the Nottingham music scene plus her favourite place to grab some tasty grub in Nottinghamshire. What can the audience expect from your sound? I always find it hard to describe my sound but it has been described as soft-folk, acoustic and one-man band kind of music, with eclectic and soulful-indie tones. Where in Notts has been your favourite venue to perform? I have played in so many amazing venues in Nottinghamshire so it’s tricky to pick one; performing at The Maze in the city centre was a great experience and The Vaults in Newark is another favourite. Obviously, nothing will ever compare to when I played at Rock City last June. Do you have a favourite restaurant you like visit in Notts when you're not performing? I had an excellent steak from Missoula once and that has stuck in my memory ever since. I also REALLY like the chicken wings and cocktails from Bunk. What are the top three things to do in Notts? I love the music scene in Notts so attending gigs of both signed and local acts is one of my favourite things to do here. My second favourite thing is sitting in Old Market Square and watching the world go by. Finally, as cliched as it sounds, my favourite thing to do in Nottinghamshire is to play gigs. I've met some lovely people through gigging and it gives me such a great feeling when I get the opportunity to play in front of family and friends, old and new.
