Weekend road closures for Nottingham's Cycle Live festival

On Saturday 25^th and Sunday 26^th June, Nottingham will play host to the annual weekend cycling festival Cycle Live Nottingham. The weekend will see visitors gather at Victoria Embankment to take part and watch an exciting range of cycling activities. Because of the nature of this event, local residents of the embankment and the cycling routes should expect a higher number of cyclists to be on the roads throughout this weekend, as well as temporary road closures. As a result of the event there are road closures planned for the Victoria Embankment as follows:

• Closure of the Victoria Embankment Road from 05:00hrs on Saturday 25^th June until 20:00hrs on Sunday 26^th
• Closure of Wilford Grove from 09:00hrs on Friday 24^th June until 20:00hrs on Sunday 26^th

The event commences on the morning of Saturday 25^th June with the Innes England Nottingham City Ride. This family friendly event follows three predominantly traffic-free routes. The start times for each ride vary throughout the day, with rides setting off from 10.00am to 11.20am. In the afternoon the circuit racing will be hosted in the Embankment, with the following road closures in place from 12:00hrs until 20:00hrs.

• Bunbury Street (section south of Woodward Street)
• Wilford Crescent East (section south of Woodward Street)
• Fraser Road (section south of Bunbury Street junction)
• Green Street and Felton Road.

Sunday 25^th June sees thousands of cyclists take to the road to complete the 35^th Great Notts Bike Ride. The long-standing ride this year comes in five distances – 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 miles with waves of riders setting off between 6:30hrs and 11:30hrs. The routes for the Great Notts Bike Ride are as follows and a high number of cyclists should be expected in these areas throughout the day:

• The Maid Marian (25 miles) 1000 riders expected, leaving from 10am:

Exit over Wilford Bridge onto Main Road, Ruddington Lane, Wilford Road, Kirk Lane, Ruddington, Loughborough Road, Bradmore Lane, Cotgrave Road, Plumtree, Cotgrave (feed station), Colston Gate, Colston Bassett, Cropwell Bishop, Cropwell Butler (feed station), Cropwell Road, Radcliffe on Trent, Holme Pierrepont, Adbolton Lane, Trent Boulevard, Nottingham Forest FC, Trentside, returning to the Embankment via a coned lane on Trent Bridge.

• The Robin Hood (50 miles) 2000 riders expected, leaving from 8am:

As the 25 mile route until Colston Bassett, Colston Lane, Harby, Stathern Lane, Granby, Plungar, Sutton Lane, Elton (feed station), Station Road, Lordship Lane, Spa Lane, Alverton, Staunton-in-the-Vale, Brecks Lane, Sibthorpe, Hawksworth, Screveton, Car Colston (feed station), East Bridgford, Newton, Shelford Road, rejoining the 25 mile route at Radcliffe-on-Trent.

• The Friar Tuck (75 miles) 500 riders expected, leaving from 7.30am:

As the 50 mile route until East Bridgford, then A6097, Lowdham Station, Southwell Road, Thurgarton, Bleasby Road, Bleasby, Main Street, Fiskerton, Station Road, Fiskerton Road, A612 (east), Southwell, Newark Road, Lower Kirklington Road, School Lane, Halam Road, Allenby Road, West Gate, Nottingham Road, Halloughton, NTU Brackenhurst (feed station), Thurgarton, Beck Street, Station Road, Hoveringham, Boat Lane, Hoveringham Road, Caythorpe, Caythorpe Road, A6097 (Cycle Way), Gunthorpe, Eastbridgford Road, rejoining the 50 mile route at Newton.

• The ‘Little John’ (100 miles) 1000 riders expected, leaving from 7am:

As the 50 mile route until East Bridgford, then A6097, Lowdham Station, Southwell Road, Bleasby Road, Bleasby, Main Street, Fiskerton, Station Road, Fiskerton Road, A612 (east), Southwell, Normanton, Hockerton, Newfield (feed station), Caunton, Norwell, Ossington, Egmanton, Laxton, A6075/ outskirts of Ollerton, Wellow (feed station), Eakring, Kirklington, Edingley, outskirts of Southwell, Halam Road, Allenby Road, West Gate, Nottingham Road, Halloughton, NTU Brackenhurst (feed station), Thurgarton, Beck Street, Station Road, Hoveringham, Boat Lane, Hoveringham Road, Caythorpe, Caythorpe Road, A6097 (Cycle Way), Gunthorpe, Eastbridgford Road, rejoining the 50 mile route at Newton.

• The Sheriff (125 miles) 100 riders expected, leaving from 6.30am:

As the 100 mile route except the following detours:

• At Harby, straight on to Waltham Lane, Eastwell, Stathern, Long Lane, Wood Lane, Blevoir Road, Woolsthorpe Road, Redmile, Barkestone (re-join 50/75/100 mile routes)
• At Halam, Oxton Road (west) to Oxton, B6386 to Calverton, Main Street, George’s Lane, Dorket Head, B684, Nottingham Road, Woodborough, Lingwood Lane, Green lane, Lambley, Park Lane, Lambley Road, Lowdham (rejoin 50/75/100 mile)

There will be further traffic management provisions in place on Sunday 26^th June for the Great Notts Bike Ride to include a coned lane on Trent bridge northbound from 10:00hrs to 18:00hrs, with additional signage and stewarding plans at various locations along the routes. The safety of all visitors and local residents is a top priority for the event. As such, the organisers have put a vast amount of time into the planning of routes to keep inconvenience to local residents and businesses as minimal as possible. This being said, they ask those using the highways on the day to take extra care and try to keep any cars parked on the street to a minimum.
