International Robin Hood Day

For centuries, the legend of Robin Hood has been spread far and wide around the globe. From hosting world class archery tournaments to a medieval pageant in his honour, the spirit of Nottinghamshire's very own outlaw is still very much alive in the county today. It's officially International Robin Hood Day on 29th October - discover the how you can retrace the footsteps of Nottinghamshire's greatest hero. Sherwood Forest The stomping ground of Robin Hood, the forest has over 900 veteran oak trees including England's Tree of the Year 2014, The Major Oak Major Oak Still standing in Sherwood Forest, the ancient English oak is between 800 and 1,000 years old and is thought to be where Robin Hood and his Merry Men slept. St Mary's Church Edwinstowe Legend has it that Robin Hood and Maid Marian were married in this ancient church just outside the forest. Robin Hood Statue Take your picture with Robin outside Nottingham Castle. The statue was unveiled by the Duchess of Portland in 1952 and has been visited by the likes Cilla Black and  Brian Clough, as well as appearing on the front page of the New York Times.
