You’ve settled into the new year and the winter is getting a little old. In just a few months time you’ll be shunning the comfort of your living room and soaking in the energy of balmy evenings and spring flowers. But for now, it's time to get busy. Time to pick up a new hobby or hone an old skill, crack out the crafts and start wowing people with your creations. With such a wealth of independent businesses in Nottingham who are eager to share their knowledge and expertise with you, we’ve selected a few of the best workshops and classes to get you feeling inspired.

DEBBIE BRYAN STUDIO

We may talk about Debbie Bryan Studio a lot, but there is certainly good reason. For starters the interior is a delight for the eyes. With paper lace patterns and mood-boardesque collages adorning the walls, you’ll immediately be inspired to get creating yourself. Wandering through the shop, you’ll find a beautiful selection of local and international artisan crafts, while workshop programmes are available from the counter From knitting socials and ever popular Crafternoons, to arranging flowers in teacups, linocut and printmaking, the calibre of sessions on offer is rather spectacular. Taking place in the tea rooms, you can enjoy your crafting with a good dose of tea and cake, and if that still leaves you wanting more, visit the gin and wine tasting nights and exclusive supperclubs.

200 DEGREES

If you’re a coffee lover and relish in finding an impeccable latte or cappuccino, you must have surely visited 200 Degrees at some point. With their flagship store on Flying Horse Walk, off the Market Square, another just by Nottingham train station,  and more stores rolled out across the country, these guys are serious about good coffee. They also want to share the experience with you, from learning about the origins of coffee to perfecting a pictorial foamy masterpiece on the top of your drink. Choose from Basic Barista, Home Brew, or Latte Art as your focus and get stuck in with hands on training and small classes. We are convinced you’ll leave with a buzz and an urge to show off your skills.

THE BEAD SHOP

Having been trading for more than 15 years, The Bead Shop are experts in their craft. If you know anything about beads you’ll know it can become quite an intricate subject, but the team at The Bead Shop maintain a high quality and extensive service which includes online ordering, wholesale quantities, thousands of varieties of beads and supplies, and a longstanding series of bespoke workshops. Introductory beading and one-on-one courses are available to start you off, giving you a feel for the basic supplies and techniques. If this gets you hooked (and it probably will!) there are further options such as Boho Embellished jewellery or silver smithing for beginners. The relaxed workshops take place of the first floor of their Market Street premises with fair trade tea, coffees and refreshments are all provided, along with a 10% voucher for everyone who attends the workshops!
