Nottingham Playhouse is delighted to announce that its critically acclaimed production of The Kite Runner will be returning to Nottingham after runs at the Wyndham’s, (where it played to sell out audiences) and Playhouse theatres in London’s West End. Originally a co-production between Nottingham Playhouse and the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse (and directed by Nottingham Playhouse’s Artistic Director, Giles Croft), The Kite Runner’s two West End runs have been produced by UK Productions and Flying Entertainment. It will return to Nottingham with a new cast before embarking on a UK tour. Stephanie Sirr, Chief Executive of Nottingham Playhouse said: “The Kite Runner has played such a special role in the life of the theatre and the city.   It was our best selling drama for many years, the Big Read project we participated in with The Kite Runner and the city was instrumental in securing our City of Literature status and its national touring and now two West End outings have taken the name of Nottingham and Nottingham Playhouse far and wide.” Giles Croft said: “When we first produced The Kite Runner in 2013 we couldn't have imagined that it would go on to have such a long life. I'm delighted that the production will be returning to Nottingham Playhouse after two successful seasons in the West End before touring the UK for a second time.” Tickets will go on sale to Playhouse Pass members of Nottingham Playhouse on the 6th of April and general release to the public on the 13th April. Nottingham Playhouse has been one of the United Kingdom’s leading producing theatres since its foundation in 1948. It welcomes over 130,000 ticket buyers through its doors annually and has an additional footfall of 170,000 visitors to participation events and to Anish Kapoor’s stunning Sky Mirror. It creates productions large and small, from timeless classics and enthralling family shows to adventurous new commissions, often touring work nationally and internationally. It’s recent production of ‘Touched’ starring BAFTA award-winning Vicky McClure has been one of the most successful, best- selling dramas at the Playhouse of all times. Our 5-star production of 1984 completed a third West End run in 2016 and is our first Broadway production opening at the Hudson Theater on 22 June 2017.
