Ah summer, the time to relax, and enjoy the finer things in life. As the weather warms and the evenings linger, Nottinghamshire comes into its element and in the months ahead we are playing host to some cracking festivals and outdoor events. Indulge in delicious food and drink, check out brilliant music and entertainment, and take in atmospheric film and theatre, all (hopefully!) with a good dose of sunshine.

Heading up the music festivals this summer is The Gate to Southwell Folk Festival on 8th - 11th June. Held at Southwell Racecourse, just a stone's throw from the picturesque market town of Southwell, you can see punk poet Atilla The Stockbroker, the fabulously named She Shanties, Mercury nominated “first lady of English folk music” Kate Rusby and plenty more acts.
If that didn't quench your thirst for dancing in the sunshine, go along to the Newark Festival the following weekend where they have the perfect summer line up with legendary acts such as UB40, The Original Wailers and Level 42. A variety of events, food and drink throughout the weekend will be sure entertain the whole family. The always spectacular Splendour Festival returns to Wollaton Park on 22nd July. Party in this historic park and catch a brilliant variety of big name acts across a number of stages. The Kaiser Chiefs, Busted, Tony Hadley and Billy Ocean are all to perform, but this is also a chance to catch up and coming Nottingham musicians before they hit the big time!F O O D & D R I N K
May bank holiday weekend sees The Great Food & Drink Festival return to the fabulous setting of Nottingham Castle, but this is much more than a mere food festival. Along with demonstrations from top chefs including Antonio Carluccio and Jean-Christophe Novelli, there will be stalls selling food, drinks and crafts and local entertainment.
Thought that sounds good? Later in the summer the same organisers are giving you another serving with The Big Bake in the gorgeous grounds of Newstead Abbey. Come along, sample some delicious treats and relax with the on site entertainment, or if you're a dab hand with a rolling pin you can take part in a baking masterclass. This year even features Candice Brown current Great British Bake Off Champion!Foodie Fest at Southwell Racecourse on 17th June sees a host of food & beverage manufacturers, local artisans, eateries, cottage industries, new and innovative ideas, demonstrations, eating & drinking related products and more.
If you haven't had your fill, round off the summer with The Festival of Food & Drink in the rolling countryside of Clumber Park. Attracting passionate food producers from all over the UK and Europe such as British chef Phil Vickery; expect street food, pop up stalls, live music, and a great atmosphere.

The Vegan Camp Out kicks off on the 7th July at Holme Pierrepoint with two days of camping and fun. For those who aren't vegan, there's still much to do and see as the festival promises 'international speakers and inspiring activism workshops, two marquee stages, live music, comedy, food and 2,500 beautiful, compassionate people all in one place.'
If beautifully curated gardens are your thing you won't want to miss The Park Garden Trail on 25th June. Wander through one of Nottingham's most grand estates, nosing at gorgeous gardens whilst indulging in 'cream teas, strawberries and fizz, homemade cakes' . This is also great chance to seek out the historic and illusive Park Tunnel!
Celebrate the last days of summer at Nottingham Green Festival on Sunday 17th September. This grassroots festival is organised by volunteers who do a spectacular job each year of providing live music, entertainment, activities for both adults and children, plus community stalls with refreshments, ethical products and energy-saving technologies and information to how to be more green!F A M I L Y F U N
