Splendour Festival is just around the corner and with an exciting lineup there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

One of the acts gracing Splendour’s stage this year is the one and only Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who will be performing on the main stage along side Paloma Faith, The Charlatans, Marc Almond to name just a few.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Sophie Ellis-Bextor ahead of Splendour and talked to her about her take on performing at outdoor festivals, her best memories of Nottingham, music plans for the future and more.

What do you enjoy the most about performing at an outdoor festival?

I love the crowd as everyone is relaxed and already having a good day out. Plus, you might not be who they came to see so I like the challenge of trying to seduce them a little, too.

Have you performed in Nottingham before, what is your best memory from that time?

Yes, I have, and I’ve always had a great time in Nottingham. It holds a special place in my heart as one of my school friends went to uni in Nottingham too, so I’ve had some great nights out here before.

What can the fans expect from your upcoming performance at Splendour?

I’m currently finishing off an orchestral greatest hits album so we’re doing a bit of a greatest hits set. There’s everything from the more recent albums like Wanderlust through to my disco stuff, which I adore performing. Who doesn’t love disco?!

How do you find Nottingham fans?

The wonderful thing about gigging around the world is you realise people react the same way to music they like. It’s an amazing thing that connects us and if the sun is shining then there is no better place to perform than a happy sunny festival.

Are you planning to release any new music in the near future?

Yes, The Song Diaries is out in October and it’s an orchestral record of all my favourite singles from the last 21 years. It’s been a really fun project to put together and it sounds pretty glorious if I do say so myself.

A big thank you to Sophie Ellis-Bextor for taking the time to talk to us! We can’t wait to see her perform in Nottingham this month. It most definitely will be an evening full of good vibes and positive energy.

Tickets for Splendour are still on sale so if you haven’t already grab yours now before they’re all gone with the wind.
