World-class theatre comes to Nottingham this weekend with the opening of The Madness of George III, selected as one of the theatre highlights of 2018 by BBC News and the Daily Mail. Mark Gatiss of Sherlock and League of Gentlemen fame stars in the title role, alongside Adrian Scarborough (Gavin & Stacey, Upstairs Downstairs, After the Dance) and Debra Gillett (Call the Midwife and Doctor Who). This brand-new production of Alan Bennett’s moving and funny masterpiece explores the themes of power and identity through the lens of the King’s descent into derangement. As his behaviour becomes erratic and his mind starts to unravel at a dramatic pace, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales threaten to undermine the power of the Crown. This relaxed contemporary craft and design fair features the work over 80 innovative, independent designers and makers specially selected for the uniqueness of their wares. Each will be on hand to discuss their inspirations and techniques, you can even commission your own one of a kind creation. Expect exquisite jewellery nestled next to stylish textiles and beautifully designed ceramics. The prefect opportunity to get a head start on the Christmas shopping with unique items that you most certainly won’t find on the high street.

Fireworks & Bonfire Celebrations 

It’s time to wrap up warm and get ready to exercise your oohs and ahhs as the sky comes to life with colourful displays this weekend. There’s plenty of fireworks and bonfire celebrations to suit every taste, many set against the beautiful backdrop of some of Nottinghamshire’s most scenic country houses and castles.

Get ready to be wowed at the beautiful Belvoir Castle on Saturday for a wonderful autumnal evening. Get toasty by the fire and enjoy the spectacular display and live entertainment or warm up with a decadent Baileys hot chocolate. Over at the historic Kelham Hall their Fireworks Extravaganza has live music and fairground rides for a fun filled evening, alongside hot food to keep you cosy, and a bar. On Sunday, charity MySight Nottinghamshire are putting on their annual and much-loved bonfire event filled with family fun entertainment, fairground attractions and delicious food at Nottingham Racecourse. to raise funds for their amazing work.

Children will love the spectacular fireworks and laser show disco at Conkers and there’s plenty more to keep them entertained all evening, with fairground amusements, balloon modelling and a range of craft activities, running Saturday and Sunday. Make a day of it over at Twinlakes Family Theme Park on Saturday, and enjoy the farm park and all of the rides and attractions before a spectacular firework show.
